I was raised as a JDub and my mother was always made sure that I wasn't allowed to loiter at the back of the hall during the program. I think that I was always on my best behavior at the KH. I just wanted to get out of there so I could be me and not the kid in the suit.

Back of the hall stragglers... were you one?
by Fleshybirdfodder inthere were mother's with babies, there were those suffering from vericose veins that had to stand up.
what about the rest of us?
in my cong there were only a few "gifted ones" who'd do sound and it was behind the literature counter (our hall was tiny).

Welcome to JWD.
I have never been DF'd or DA'd (that I'm aware of) so my JW family has no reason to shun me. I've made no attempts of hiding my contempt for the WBTS from them though. This at times has made relationships difficult, but I can thankfully say that I dont think I've ever been shunned by family members.

How old will you be....
by Scully inwhen you will have been an exjw for as long as you were a jw?.
i was raised in the jws from before the age of 10, and stopped going to the kh at the age of 31. i was involved with the jws for a total of 23 years.
i will be 54 years old by the time i have spent more of my life as an exjw than i did as a jw..

It's hard for me to pinpoint a certain number of years, as I've always questioned what I was being spoon fed. However I would have to say that I have another 2 to 4 years to go till my number of years out equals my number of years in. That would put me between 34 and 36.
Here's to the rest of you !
Better out than in at any age, huh?

Is your avatar you?
by Swamboozled ini always assume that people with real pics for their avatars are pics of that poster.
obviously that's not always the case.
i'm curious about whose pic is really them.

My avatar is a bead that I bought from a bead store in Bloomington Indiana way back in the day. However, it is very much me......that's why I bought it.

How did you tie your tie?
by Mysterious inwas there a knot pecking order at your hall, or was this not the case.
(pardon the pun) http://www.tie-a-tie.net/ ugh and if anyone has more coherent directions for tying a windsor knot i'm all ears my piddly little fudged knot is the laughing stock of work.

Well folkes, it's the day before Halloween 2006 and I've just finished my three pumpkins for the year. Normally I carve two, but this year my twins are going as Mickey and Minney and my wife suggested that I carve one for each of them. My 6 year old is going as Batman but he requested a Spiderman/Venom combo pumpkin.
Rather than start a new topic I did a little digging to bring this one back from it's slumber.
I hope everyone has a safe and happy Halloween.
Cheers!

GUESS WHAT HAPPENED TO ME TODAY!
by Butters ini cannot believe what i saw happen today at the store.. i was at wal-mart browsing various electronics and digital cameras and such, when i heard behind me, "brother hardy, how are you!"...
first thing i thought was oh shit, they found me, and forgot my real name, or have me mixed up with someone else.. turns out, this disfellowshiped witness was there at the store and saw one of his congregation members there.
now i personally have never been part of the shunning process myself, but here i am, an ex-jw watching from the other aisle, a bunch of shit that i never thought i would see the lights of day on.... the brother, this "hardy" i guess, looked up at the man with a smile, but then when he realized who it was, he immediately frowned and started pushing his shopping cart away looking straight ahead and not even acknowledging the man... (here's where i jump in..).

Butters,
Reading your experience makes me wish I could have been a fly on the wall...or....better yet.....on the car windshield when the herb was lit up. LOL.

How significant was the 1995 bombshell - generation?
by jambon1 ini was wondering what effect the article on the generation change had on most people here?.
for years, the trump card on the ministry when replying to the "it will never come in my day" objection to armageddon, was the doctrine of the generation.
many jw`s probobly held back from making important financial comitments.

I was already gone when the formal generation change took place. It didnt suprise me to find out about it though.
